Murray Lord

Murray is a founding partner of Wellington Yacht Partners. Originally from New Zealand, he grew up spending a great deal of time pursuing outdoor interests including climbing, hiking and, of course, sailing. After moving to Australia in 1979, he worked as a portrait photographer for 1-½ years while at the same time becoming very involved with the tall ship Alma Doepel. It was then that he decided to pursue yachting full time.

He moved to the South of France where he obtained his first professional job on a power yacht. His love of the lifestyle led him from power to sailboats, where he spent the next 17 years working as Captain on a multitude of different yachts, ranging from a Hinckley 42 to the famed Little Harbor 63, Emma, to the 110′ sloop, Sensation of New Zealand, the latter of which he captained from San Diego to Alaska, then through the Panama Canal to France and Italy. During these years at sea, Murray sailed between the Caribbean and Maine, made several trans-Atlantic trips, including the 2005 Rolex Trans-Atlantic race on the 112′ Whisper, and traveled through the Panama canal, to Cuba and the Mediterranean. He has raced in the Nioulague in St. Tropez and in Antigua race weeks aboard such yachts as Gitana IV and Adela.

Murray is in a position to share his many years of yachting experience with boat-buying clients, having sold such vessels as the 27 meter Ferretti Navetta Bacs, the classic 38 meter Feadship Lady Allison and the 32 meter Benetti Admiral Bolitho. His knowledge of mid- to large-sized yachts, both sail and power, is extensive, but his quick wit and outgoing personality are what make him a natural yacht broker. If you are thinking of buying a yacht or if you would like to sell the vessel you have and acquire something bigger, please give Murray a call.

In his spare time Murray can be found white water kayaking, taking part in ocean kayak races, climbing, biking and adventure racing.
