Portsmouth, RI, US
The iconic Gulfstar 50 made waves through the 70’s and 80’s, and for good reason. Designed with a spacious 3-cabin layout for comfortable cruising, these boats quite literally enabled the development of the charter market as we know it today. The Vince Lazzara design boasts classic overhangs and styling that turns heads in any harbor, and the sloop rig and ergonomic center-cockpit controls allow her to be easily handled by a crew of two. The protected center cockpit offers shelter in rough water and a spacious location to relax with guests in a quiet anchorage. It’s hard to find such a well-found example in this size range that offers an ICW-friendly rig and keel dimensions.
This example in particular represents a rare and excellent value - in 2012/13 BIRD underwent a major renovation to the tune of about $180,000, during which every piece of equipment on the boat (from the engine to the rig) was replaced with modern gear. The upgrades are too many to list, but feel free to inquire for details on this refit, plus many other upgrades since.

ACCOMMODATIONS
The master stateroom aft, with en-suite head and separate shower, boasts an enormous U-shaped double berth with enough space for a couple to sleep together athwartships while in harbor or separately in lateral positions while at sea. The forward stateroom has a large V-berth that fills in to form a double and shares a head with the saloon. The third stateroom, midship to starboard, has two single bunks with yet another small en-suite head. On BIRD, these bunks have been converted to workspace/storage space; however, they could easily be swapped back to accommodate mattresses if desired.
The L-shaped galley runs along the walk-through alley under the center cockpit to port, with twin sinks close enough to the centerline to drain on either tack. The saloon has a dinette to port and a settee plus a pilot berth to starboard.
Real teak is used throughout, with impressive workmanship and quality evident in all joinery.
