Designed by Gérman Frers and awarded Cruising World magazine’s 2011 Boat of the Year, the Hylas 56 features a long waterline with short aft overhang and an aesthetically pleasing bow overhang connected by the gorgeous Frers sheerline. Her surprisingly large cockpit for a center-cockpit design of this size, invites the entire crew for dinner or sundowners, while keeping sail handling controls within easy reach of the helm. The open clear decks invite crew to move fore and aft, and the large afterdeck will become a favorite evening lounging area.
Designed to be sailed by a couple, the Hylas 56 hull is hand laid with alternating layers of e-glass and Twaron which ensures the strongest, toughest possible hull available. This extra step in hull construction is rare in the industry and a testament to the 56’s go-anywhere status.
Below deck her three-stateroom, four-cabin interior offers excellent ventilation, loads of natural light, and wonderful outward visibility with staterooms, galley, and navigation station that rivals most 65 footers. Solid wood doors, handrails, and corner joinery, exude elegance and longevity. The teak and holly sole's floor hatches provide access to important systems and lock down for offshore safety.
On deck the Hylas 56 offers impressive equipment everywhere, but nowhere more important than the Sta-Lok fittings for the shrouds rather than pressed fittings at the turnbuckles supporting a powerful sail plan that is easily controlled by roller-furling hardware. Thirty-two-inch tall stanchions built of 1 ¼” diameter stainless steel tubing, string double stainless steel lifelines with opening gates port and starboard exude safety and the over-length stern rail extends forward to near midships for added security.
