Bill has spent his entire life on and around boats. Having grown up racing and cruising the waters of Charleston, SC, with a family of sailors (on both sides!), he got the itch during college to pursue bigger dreams of bigger passages on bigger boats. He left land at the age of 21, and for the next ten years, worked as a captain/engineer and manager for sailing yachts between 50 – 110 feet. This included luxury charter programs, private/remote cruising itineraries and high-level racing programs on both monohulls and multihulls. During those ten years at sea, he cruised, raced and chartered the waters of the Mediterranean, Caribbean, UK, Bahamas and USA. He oversaw roughly $5 million worth of refits and yard periods, ran hundreds of charters, built charter programs from the ground up, captained four trans-Atlantics and sailed tens of thousands of ocean miles. He even took part in a rescue at sea!

Bill finally decided to ‘swallow the anchor’ and moved ashore to Newport, RI, in 2017, where he has made a home for himself and his fiancé Karla. He joined Wellington in hopes that, with his knowledge and experience, he could make himself valuable to both buyers and sellers looking for an enjoyable experience with a fellow sailor, rather than a salesman. Since becoming a broker, Bill has dramatically expanded his portfolio and field of expertise, quickly learning all there is to know about the power boat market, to match the chops he already has in the sailing world. He has helped dozens of clients through the search-and-purchase process, for both power and sail boats, from ~$100,000 to ~$3 million.

Bill takes pride in offering extensive follow-up service for many clients who need it. This often includes consultation on upgrades and modifications, connecting clients with yards and contractors/vendors, personally managing or overseeing refit periods and yard projects, delivering vessels from point of purchase to home port, and extensive owner training for those looking for a helping hand as they get comfortable with their new boat. This added value cannot be underestimated or overlooked, and is rare to find in the brokerage industry.

Regardless of what sort of vessel you’re looking to buy or sell, you can be sure Bill has the firsthand knowledge and experience required to make the process smooth and efficient — all with a measured, laid back, no-nonsense style.
