A Bermuda Race Win, a 2023 Camden Overall — and Now, a New Owner: VERISSIMO Sold!
Another successful yacht sale by Wellington Yacht Partners
Congratulations to the new owners of VERISSIMO, a custom-built 1998 Alden 63! It’s the end of one remarkable chapter for this yacht — and the beginning of another.
A Rare Pedigree
VERISSIMO was designed by the offices of John G. Alden and built through a joint venture between Eric Goetz Custom Boats of Bristol, Rhode Island, and Derecktor Shipyards of Mamaroneck, New York. Goetz produced a light, strong composite hull and deck. Derecktor then fitted her out with systems, machinery, and joinery, drawing on decades of yard experience. She was launched in 1998.
The result is a yacht with the appearance and fine exterior detailing of a traditional design, married to genuinely serious sailing performance. Her powerful sail plan, moderate-draft keel, slippery hull form, and deep spade rudder make her surprisingly fast in light air and stable and sea-kindly when conditions build. A 2021 upgrade added pushbutton and remote-control adjustment of the vang, traveler, outhaul, backstay, and mainsheet — wireless and helm control systems more commonly found on much larger yachts — making sail trim easier and the boat noticeably quicker as a result. Even at 63 feet, VERISSIMO can be comfortably sailed by just two people.
A Decade-Plus of Memories
VERISSIMO has had the same captain caring for her since 2015. Her outgoing owner purchased her in 2012, at age 65, curious to see where she’d take him over the next decade. Looking back, she took him much further than he expected — including onto the racecourse:
- First in class, 2016 Newport to Bermuda Race
- Multiple wins at the Camden Classic Yacht Race in Maine, including an overall win in 2023
- Two overall wins at Jamestown RI’s Around the Island Race
- Class win, 2017 Marblehead to Halifax Race
Alongside the racing, there were summers cruising New England to Maine and winters in the Caribbean, shared with friends, family, and grandchildren.
A Name That Fits
VERISSIMO is Italian for “true” — a fitting name for a yacht that has proven herself, race after race and season after season, to be exactly as capable as she looks. Built and maintained to a high standard, she represents a rare opportunity that has now found its next owner.
In her outgoing owner’s words: “Now it’s someone else’s turn to see where she takes you while making some great memories!” So, to the new owners of VERISSIMO – Cheers to the many places she will take you!
