At the time of construction, FRUITION ranked as the largest and fastest of Chuck Paine’s Bermuda series. She was designed and built for the present owner as a replacement for his previous 67ft aluminum ketch, which he had personally sailed in a circumnavigation. Once again, a ketch rig was still his choice and the new yacht had to be fast, so weight-saving was an important consideration. Thus, FRUITION has a long 73ft/22.45m waterline, which increases by about 4ft/1.22m as soon as she moves.

The owner is a hands-on sailor and so FRUITION has large diameter steering wheels driving chain and wire to the rudder quadrant, producing the “feel” that helmsmen appreciate.

To save weight but more for practical reasons the only teak laid area on deck is the cockpit. This huge weight saving is made by opting for a non-slip treated aluminum deck. This has the further benefit of keeping the accommodation - not to mention the crew’s feet - much cooler in the tropics and means less maintenance and no costly renewal of teak to be allowed for.

FRUITION has excellent deck space with a truly vast aft deck where her big RIB is stowed on passage. For those overnight stops at anchor, the RIB can be hoisted out of the water by the spinnaker halyard to swing against the starboard topside against a couple of fenders.

The cockpit is a delight: good to look at and practical and comfortable in use. It is provided with a fixed Bimini (once you’ve had one you can’t do without it!) and a folding sprayhood forward. And of course, a great dining table.

The owner’s previous yacht had a small seating area in a raised saloon with good windows – this was again, a “must have”. But FRUITION excels with an enormous upper saloon with U-seating around a dining table and sofa on the starboard side. There is a lower saloon and chart table area opposite the galley on the lower deck.

The cabin accommodation throughout is extremely comfortable. Owner, guests and crew are well provided for in respects of comfort and space. There is good privacy for both the owner’s party and the crew. Owner and guests aft, with the crew area located forward of the galley.

After several years cruising between the Caribbean and the US East Coast, FRUITION crossed the Atlantic in 2006 and has been based in the Mediterranean since. Still with her first owner and in top condition after thorough overhauls, refits and maintenance in the past years.
