GIMLET is the finest Surfhunter 29 Jet ever built. Originally used out of Ninigret Pond (RI) where waterjet propulsion was not just an attractive option with joystick docking - but a necessity to navigate the shallow tidal estuary. The real challenge, however, was running the breachway in and out of Ninigret- not for the faint of heart and definitely the assignment for a true Hunt-designed Deep-Vee hull. The original owner started out with a Surfhunter 25 but needed a boat with a real interior with stand-up headroom and a large enclosed head for doing overnights, so the move up to the 29 made total sense.
The original owner loved the boat. Upon retirement, however, a decision was made to do the Great Loop so the Hunt was sold for a Nordic Tug. Fast forward a couple of years and a home move to the shallow waters of the Florida Gulf Coast and we get a call that another boat is needed; that very day GIMLET came back on the market and ended up back in the hands of her original owners who used the boat for several more years before moving up to a WhisperJet 38.
With stints on Lake Lanier outside of Atlanta and Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, this remarkable boat found her way back south for use out of Boca Grande - another skinny water locale where the true shoal draft of only 18 inches really shines.
GIMLET has enjoyed quite a life with remarkable owners, truly excellent care and constant updating along the way. Under current ownership the boat lives on a rack inside a building and only gets splashed for a day at a time and enjoys a short winter season. A year ago, state-of-the-art Garmin radar was added with a huge plotter at the helm. Major waterjet "1000"-hour service has been completed and along with engine service, professional hull polishing and detailing have this boat both running and looking great.
Some of the options worth mentioning: custom 'Palm Beach' bimini extension; additional AC dedicated to the bridge deck; a separate engine-driven heating system, Simrad autopilot; teak ladderback helm AND companion chairs; a full curtain enclosure; extra 12v fans and a zip-opening window in the bimini for use south of the Mason Dix; Ultrasuede V-berth cushions with coordinated Ultrasuede curtains for the interior portlights - and the list goes on.
A truly excellent example of waterjet propulsion matched and sized just right with the proportions and weight of the hull. She planes nicely at 15 knots and runs beautifully from there on up to her fast cruise of 24-25 knots with 30 knot max thanks to her Volvo 435hp diesel. The Hunt Deep-Vee with pronounced strakes works well with this propulsion, however the addition of custom trim tabs with surfboard like skegs on the bottom is the secret sauce that Hunt adds to all of their jets and allows the boat to behave much like her prop-driven sisters, tracking well even in a following sea.
Canvas and cushions have been replaced and still look great. Bilges are clean. Gelcoat on deck sparkles. And docking with the joystick talking to the waterjet and bowthruster is just plain awesome.
We invite your interest in this incredible boat.
