Newport, RI, US
The renowned British multihull designer Nigel Irens was tapped to draw the third generation of the Gunboat series which were built at what is now the HH Catamarans factory between 2012 - 2018. Plenty has been said and written about the best-in-class performance, quality, durability, and aesthetics of the Gunboats and if you’re reading this you most likely are already familiar… so I’ll spare you the marketing fluff and focus on MOONWAVE specifically.
MOONWAVE is the first of this new generation and arguably the most special, with her unique electric propulsion system (*note, not hybrid) and her operator-friendly setup for relaxed world cruising. Despite being the first GB60, MOONWAVE has only had one owner and only two captains in her 13 years on the water. She has benefited from millions of dollars’ worth of upgrades and refits throughout those years including three different power packs - she’s now on her third and by far the most refined iteration, the increasingly popular (with superyachts) Torqeedo Deep Blue system which powers the engines and nearly every system on the boat. Her enormous solar array coupled with this advanced power pack and management system allows for incredible autonomy; the boat once spent 116 days straight without tying to a dock (passage days + anchor days). Beyond the modern power pack MOONWAVE also benefits from the nearly-compulsory vertical dagger board upgrade which proved to be a far superior setup vs the standard swinging centerboard that came from the factory. (MOONWAVE’s draft with board up is 3.9’, with board down is 11.5’) Other notable, pricey, and recent upgrades and updates are listed below.
MOONWAVE is immaculately maintained, competitively priced, and easy to see in the water in Newport, RI. Please reach out to the listing broker for more details, questions, or to set up a showing.
