Newport, RI, US
It is difficult not to overuse superlatives when describing the classic good looks of the Morris 42 "daysailor" designed by Sparkman and Stephens and built by Morris Yachts in DownEast Maine. So instead of waxing poetic, I will share a recent encounter that I wish I could have captured on film. The owners and I were motoring out of Sippican Harbor in Marion for a photo shoot and they had just remarked that almost everywhere they go the boat receives admiring looks. The Beverly Junior Regatta (BJR) was in full swing with Optis and 420s as far as the eye could see, and a young Opti sailor who could not have been more than 13 years old sauntered by and called out: "Great looking boat, is she a Morris?" and "I love the color!" What more can I say? Other than to add that BOADICEA is indeed a "make your heart go pitter patter" affair and truly a delight to sail. And easy at that. The 2024 switch to a new Leisure Furl boom and new North mainsail with B&G GPS plotter at the helm helps. As does the self-tacking jib. And having all the control lines led back to the generous cockpit and within easy reach of the helm allows for single-handed sailing when desired and is a cinch for two. The stainless folding anchor roller that lives below the foredeck and may be deployed, anchor and all when needed - but is stowed away out of sight when not- is another great feature. Her spade rudder, strong engine and powerful bow thruster make docking a breeze, and proper (upgraded) double lifelines and bow and stern pulpits help keep you secure when handling a mooring or tender aft.
Perhaps the ultimate American expression from S&S of what a daysailor should look like and ably interpreted and executed by one of our finest builders Morris Yachts, the Morris 42 was an instant classic when she initially hit the scene. Others scrambled to follow suit, but no one has come close then or since to the type of success and interest this class generated, and the numbers of boats built on a semi-custom basis speak for themselves. BOADICEA sports distinctive Downeast Red Awlgrip topsides with cream gelcoat surfaces on deck with Moondust nonskid- a color combination that just works and frankly dazzles with the addition of a gold cove strip, double cream boot stripes and a black bottom. Oh, and the mast is also painted cream to match. There is also something about the teak cabin trunk sides and solid teak cockpit- varnished bright- that completes the 'look'. As you can see from some of the photos in the listing which were captured shortly before sunset, these colors and varnished surfaces take on a warm, rich and rather pleasant patina.
BOADICEA is reluctantly but seriously offered for sale and competitively priced. She sparkles from stem to stern, from bilge bottoms to mast top and we submit a close inspection will not disappoint.

INTRODUCTION
Engineered for reliability, simplicity and ease of use, BOADICEA was designed for spirited shorthanded sailing. And while called a “daysailor” the Morris 42 is perfect in the words of her builder for “six guests for sailing and a picnic, four for dinner below and two for overnighting” which sums up nicely the boat’s mission. The interior of the boat is sublime with just the right amount of everything including light and ventilation, headroom and a practical head which converts to a generous shower with an ingenious triple-folding bulkhead that stows away neatly when not in use. The boat actually sleeps four comfortably, so an overnight with children or grandchildren in the mix is certainly an option. The galley is strategically located at the base of the companionway for easy communication with the cockpit where a generous double leaf table with insulated compartment for drinks can be found.
LAYOUT AND ACCOMMODATIONS
BOADICEA’s open-plan interior is built in classic Herreshoff style with Antique White bulkheads and gloss-varnished cherry joinery and painted wood overhead. Cabin sides are satin varnished cherry. In addition to opening hatches and dorade vents, BOADICEA is fully air conditioned. Headroom is 6’-2”. Morris Yachts has boiled down the entertaining mission of the M42 to “six guests for sailing and a picnic, four for dinner below and two for overnighting.”
GALLEY
Just inside the companionway to starboard is the U-shaped galley. Galley features include:
HEAD
A spacious head with shower, convenient to the cockpit, is opposite the galley on the port side. Head features include:
A hanging locker is located forward of the head, a perfect place to store outerwear.
MAIN SALON
Two full-length settees with “Devon” UltraSuede upholstery, to port and starboard, face a cherry drop-leaf table, with liquor storage beneath, which comfortably accommodates four for dining. A modern “butterfly-style” hatch above and eight fixed portlights provide great natural light and ventilation. Twin end tables, with storage below and lockers with shelves outboard, are built in at the forward end of the settees. There are storage lockers located outboard at the forward and aft ends of the settees, and two large drop fronts allow access to space under the queen berth. Alcoves between the upper lockers provide storage space for books etc. Chelsea clock and barometer.
SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS
BOADICEA sleeps four on two settee berths and one queen-sized berth. The owner’s berth is forward with full-length shelves on either side. Two dorades and a large overhead hatch provide great ventilation and an opportunity to stargaze.
