INTRODUCTION
CANNONBALL is hull # 16 of only 17 Hunt Harrier 36’s in existence. In high demand and hard to come by, these iconic designs have become collectible because molds no longer exist. What a shame, as they are amazing boats on multiple fronts, not the least of which is the character they take on when powered with twin Volvo 435hp diesels and in this case perfectly mated to a pair of Hamilton 274 waterjets with bow thruster and joystick control for effortless docking and precision maneuvering with true shoal draft.
If ever there were the equivalent of a 12 -cylinder touring car on water, this is it! Power aplenty when running with a gaggle of family and friends. Fast (yes!) with an easy 30-32 knot cruise, but equally important- especially with waterjet propulsion- is how well she goes at slow speeds on a plane at a whisper, with very little bow rise and therefore excellent visibility for helmsperson and guests alike. And no drier riding boat exists, which means the huge and open cockpit is great underway as well as at rest.
CANNONBALL has spent her entire life (less one year) in New England for short summer usage with indoor heated storage in the off season. Her second owner put her own stamp on the boat, with a substantial refit with a different cockpit and bridge deck layout which really transformed the boat and has been admired and copied by others since. A simple and well-thought-out boat and well-equipped with goodies like AC/reverse cycle heat for the interior, Garmin electronics at the helm, double helm and single companion pedestal seats with lifting bolsters, autopilot, bow thruster, a custom bridge deck wet bar – to name a few.
The “Coupe” refers to the hardtop with sliding side glass windows, beautifully sheathed with teak on the inside for a warm and distinctive look. Plenty of ventilation is provided by overhead hatches, sliding side glass windows and aft drop curtains which can be rolled up or removed all together for an open-air feeling or lowered down for full protection under the hard top.
Exterior space and day boating are clearly the focus, with a very large ensuite head below in keeping with this theme. And yet the interior is both quite lovely and functional with a convertible dinette, galley, and large V-berth with filler to make a huge double, perfect for overnights or the occasional long weekend for a couple or family with younger children.
CANNONBALL is hands-down the best running waterjet boat we have ever had the pleasure to drive! She is so much fun to helm and the perfect choice for beach runs, one-design race chasing, squeezing in and out of tight slips at crowded docks at the height of Summer and of course exploring shallow and secluded areas others dare not go. All on a true Ray Hunt deep vee hull known the world over for superior handling in rougher patches of water in places like Buzzards Bay and Vineyard and Nantucket Sounds.
Fresh off a haul-out with full waterjet service, new zincs, bottom paint, etc. CANNONBALL is ready to go!
