INDIGO | Custom Empacher 52 | 52ft
Donated vessel, available for long-term charter with option to purchase. Price Reduced. INDIGO is a well-designed and capable offshore cruising yacht. She is structurally sound and generally in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. She does need new fuel tanks and could use some upgrading of equipment below her floorboards. A recent $94,000. price reduction more than compensates for this and makes her a terrific value for the right buyer who has hands-on maintenance skills or the desire to refit a very deserving yacht.
Dieter Empacher, former chief designer for Little Harbor Yachts owned by Ted Hood, was commissioned in 1984 to design a bluewater cruiser/racer to sail anywhere in the world. Welded aluminum was chosen for its high strength-to-weight properties, for its high impact resistance in case of grounding or striking an object at sea, and for its overall strength of hull and superstructure according to conservative design specifications. The yacht was designed to be fast, sea-kindly and capable of being sailed short-handed. She is also absolutely beautiful.
INDIGO is weatherly and comfortable on the wind, with her near 12’ of draft with the centerboard down, and has a draft of less than 6’ with the board up. INDIGO can get into many places other 52’ yachts cannot.
As beautiful below as she is above, INDIGO’s cabin has high headroom and is finished throughout with high-quality varnished teak joinerwork. Her cabin sole is of fine hand-laid teak and holly construction.
The year after her launching, she was first to finish and then first in her class (corrected time) in the 1985 Marion-to-Bermuda Race. Since then, she has had three owners, the most recent a retired live-aboard couple who sailed her extensively along the U.S East Coast, Caribbean, South America and Mediterranean.
